Hydraulic fracturing is a very effective method of well stimulation. It significantly boosts oil and gas recovery by fracturing the formation with fluids and proppant pumped into the fracture at high pressure.

Frac design incorporates data from: petrophysical models, borehole geology models and mechanical earth models for a frac simulator to design the optimized fluid treatment program. The fracture design becomes visible on the three-dimensional frac simulator. It shows the options of the different hydraulic fracturing technologies depending on the geological, technological and reservoir conditions.

The optimized design in agreement with Petro Welt Technologies AG clients is taken and executed in the field.

Fracturing

When a decision has been reached on the procedure, the aim is to maximise the oil or gas flow. The optimal method is to combine many existing small fractures, breaks or hollows into one large fracture. Following this, the team pumps liquid (pad) into the fracture at high pressure over a period of several hours. The pressure built up breaks the earth layers holding gas or oil and creates a gap that permits a greater flow.

Once the earth layer is fractured, the specialists pump in a proppant – often sand or ceramic materials enriched with viscose additives. In this way, the team can prevent the fractures from closing again as soon as the pressure decreases.

The Petro Welt Technologies AG teams cope with frac jobs at depths of up to 4,000 metres – conventional methods are used at depths of up to 3,000 metres.

In the third phase, another proppant fluid is poured into the opened and stabilised fractures.

In the fourth and final phase, the completion, the success of our fracturing application is shown:

The petroleum now flows with considerably less resistance onto the surface of the earth.

Upon completion of the fracturing work, the customer receives a complete logbook of the processes, data and work carried out including the frac card material.

The four phases of fracturing increase demand in the short term by up to ten times. The yield is doubled in the long term.

The result is that oil and gas deposits can be exploited in a more efficient and economical way.
